The essential activity of the Community of Joseph is shared Weekly Contemplative Practice on behalf of the vocation of organizational leadership. This gathering is open to all who wish to participate, whether occasionally or more regularly. The Community welcomes participants from all religious/wisdom traditions.

The First Hour (Contemplation)

In the first hour members of the community reflect and pray inspired by wisdom texts from Eastern and Western Religious / Wisdom sources. This is the tradition of lectio divina that includes hearing a short text read slowly, meditating upon the lessons of the words for the leadership vocation, praying silently as each feels prompted in her/his own heart and consistent with their tradition, and spending time in contemplative/meditative silence. This contemplative practice is the mystical foundation and central purpose of the Community. We believe contemplative practice by and in support of leaders is critical for the transformation of modern organizations.

The Second Hour (Community)

In the second hour members of the community engage in sacred chant inspired by the Hebrew Psalms of David, converse and pray regarding the joys and challenges of their shared leadership vocation, and hold the efforts of other leaders in prayer.

The Third Hour (Worship)

In the third hour (optional and open to individual discernment depending on individual tradition) a member of the Community may participate in shared worship. (For example, Christian members of the Community may celebrate the Eucharist).
